Today, February 16, Lithuania celebrates becoming an independent nation in 1918. Lithuania is in Eastern Europe, situated on the coast of the Baltic Sea. The official language is Lithuanian, which is one of the oldest Indo-European languages. The natural environment of Lithuania is breathtakingly beautiful. There are 2830 lakes and hundreds of rivers in Lithuania; more than 30% of its total land is covered in forests. In addition, there are many national parks and reserves. Lithuania’s national bird is the stork; people co-inhabit with at least 50,000 of these majestic feathered friends. May the glorious Lithuanian people be blessed with a joyous Independence Day.

In world news, the European Union donates US$630 million to Jamaica to help banana and plantain farmers. US$408 million will go towards helping the farmers develop other sources of income and encourage economic development in 6 different banana growing communities.

Thank you, European Union! God bless you abundantly for your very generous support to Jamaica. May Heaven shine on the peace-loving Jamaican people.

M’Caw the Parrot: I am M’Caw the Parrot, with a perfect tip for any day of the year. Try to do some gentle stretches in the evenings before you go to bed and in the mornings just after you have risen. It will help to loosen your muscles, warm you up and relax you. “A healthy mind in a healthy body!” Thank you for watching. And now, let’s take a look at the weather around the world.

In solar news, British scientists search for less expensive solar power. Researchers at Durham University have partnered with other United Kingdom institutions to develop more efficient and sustainable solar energy panels. This multi-million-dollar project is designed to make solar energy more widely available and at a lower cost. Researchers are looking into alternative low-cost materials as well as the use of dyes to capture more of the energy from the sun.

Thank you scientists and bless you for making renewable energy easily accessible. May the Earth be granted a safe and sustainable future.

In humanitarian news, Brazil donates US$1 million to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). These funds will be used for school food projects in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Ambassador Josette Sheeran, the WFP’s Executive Director said: “This is a clear demonstration of Brazil's courage in taking on hunger, both inside and outside its own borders.” Brazil has been helping WFP with endeavors to support governments in their own programs to feed children since 2006.

Thank you so much, Brazil, and may the Providence bless your kindness. May comfort and happiness be bestowed on all children.

Up next, the United Arab Emirates prepares students for careers in wildlife conservation and habitat management. We’ll take a moment in prayer for the happiness of all beings. Please stay tuned. You’re watching Noteworthy News on Supreme Master Television.

Welcome back to Noteworthy News - Lively News for a United World.

In health news, Intel develops remote health monitoring device. Indian and American researchers at microchip producer Intel Corporation have developed a wireless device that remotely monitors the health of users. It automatically alerts doctors in case of medical emergencies. The relative low-cost of this device will allow the 1.1 billion people living in rural India better access to healthcare in times of need. Mr. Justin Rattner, chief technology officer at Intel said: “Technology like this will help us live better and longer.”

Bravo, and God bless Intel researchers for this novel and life-saving invention. May the people of India be endowed with good health and long, happy lives.

In animal welfare news, the United Arab Emirates gives courses on animal protection. The Environmental Agency of Abu Dhabi has joined with United Arab Emirates University to develop a course in animal welfare. The syllabus will address subjects such as biodiversity and wildlife conservation. Fifty United Arab Emirates nationals have already signed up for the course. They will eventually be trained as desert rangers to implement local and national laws protecting animals as well as the environment.

Our gratitude, United Arab Emirates University and Environmental Agency of Abu Dhabi. May Allah bless you for your thoughtful plans to look after the Earth’s beautiful wild animals and natural resources.

Let’s now join in laughter with a joke told by Supreme Master Ching Hai. This joke is entitled “Second Opinion.”

In a heated debate, a professor rejected Voltaire’s idea, calling him an ignoramus. Voltaire smiled, looked at the person he was talking to, and said, “Professor, up till now, I still thought that you were an intelligent man, but you think that I’m an ignoramus. Perhaps both of us are mistaken.”
